Leisure business in Malaysia: how to reach Chinese tourists on Dianping
A leisure business in Malaysia reaches Chinese tourists by listing on Dianping (大众点评): get verified, offer deals they can buy before they arrive and reply to reviews. MerchantNgin (赢商), Dianping's official partner in Malaysia, runs the Chinese-platform side. Typical go-live is 2-4 weeks after materials are complete.
Do Chinese tourists look for leisure venues on Dianping?
Yes. They look before they fly, then search for KTV, bars and escape rooms nearby once they are in Kuala Lumpur.
Dianping is the app Chinese consumers use for restaurant, beauty and leisure decisions, at home and when they travel. On its Kuala Lumpur city page, Leisure & Entertainment (休闲娱乐) is a top-level channel next to food, with KTV as one of its categories. Meituan (美团) is its parent company, and verified merchants are also cross-listed on Meituan: one setup, two platforms.
More Chinese visitors are coming, too. A mutual 30-day visa exemption between China and Malaysia has applied since 17 July 2025, and visitor arrivals from China reached 1.41M in January to March 2026, up 25.3% and second only to Singapore.

Each of these is part of onboarding and operations: translated activity descriptions, photo gallery, deal listing and review replies.

Dianping accepts KTV, bars, escape rooms, bowling alleys, arcades, live shows and sports venues, and we onboard all of them.

What do group buy and Chinese reviews do for a leisure venue?
Group buy gets Chinese visitors to commit before they arrive; Chinese reviews give them the confidence to pick you. Group buy means listing a voucher or activity package on the platform. Platform data shows merchants with group-buy deals get 30% more impressions on average. Customers pay in the platform app, and redemptions are settled by the platform, so you do not handle RMB yourself.
Operators in Thailand already see the weight of reviews. A Chiang Mai zipline operator said over 80% of Chinese visitors who enquire had read Dianping reviews first, and the team reads them daily to fix issues such as waiting time.
Review management is part of our service: we monitor new reviews and reply to good and bad ones, so you never write the replies yourself, and we report impressions, visits, orders and reviews every month.

Visitors decide it. Dianping says the Must-Visit List (必玩榜) is built only from genuine user reviews, with no nominations and no commercial partnerships, so a place cannot be bought, and no agency, including us, can promise you one.
In 2026 Dianping extended the list to Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and overseas, with awards held in Kuala Lumpur on 26 August 2026: 33 cities and regions and 474 venues. Malaysia has 30 listed venues in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Kota Kinabalu. Dianping data shows traffic to the Malaysian listed venues rose 109% after the list was publishedShenzhen News, 31 Aug 2026. A representative of an eco park on Penang Hill said Chinese visitors' reviews and photos put it on the list.
What we can do is get the basics right: accurate Chinese descriptions, honest photos and careful replies to reviews, so the Chinese visitors who come are willing to write about it. The list itself is the visitors' call.

What venue owners ask most
Can my venue list on Dianping without Mandarin, a Chinese phone number or a China company?
Yes. What a Malaysian venue needs is local paperwork: SSM registration and the owner's NRIC or passport, plus venue details, photos and your price list, and any other verification documents Dianping asks for. A Chinese phone number, a China company or a Chinese bank account is not needed; your Malaysian +60 number is enough. Nor is Mandarin: you talk to us in English or BM, and we run the Chinese-platform side.
How long does it take to list a leisure venue on Dianping, and what does it cost?
Most venues go live 2-4 weeks after their materials are in; Dianping's verification review itself takes about 3-5 working days, and the rest is usually waiting on photos and the price list. The service runs on an annual package with a 1-year minimum, and the verified merchant account (商户通) is itself an annual product, billed yearly. We quote after the free consultation, based on your venue and activities.
How do Chinese customers pay?
Chinese customers pay in the Dianping and Meituan apps when they buy your group-buy package or voucher, and once it is redeemed at your venue the platform settles the payment. You do not collect RMB yourself, and your monthly report lists group-buy orders so you can see how that side of the business is moving.
Is Dianping only worth it for venues that serve tourists?
No. The local Chinese-Malaysian community is active on Dianping and Meituan as well, so a local who checks reviews before a night of KTV, bowling or drinks can find your venue too. Your listing serves two crowds: Chinese tourists on a short visit, and Chinese-Malaysians living nearby who use Chinese-language apps to decide where to go.
Which leisure venues can list on Dianping?
Dianping accepts KTV, bars, escape rooms, bowling alleys, arcades, live shows and sports venues, and we onboard all of them. Each venue is still subject to the platform's review; if you are unsure which category yours fits or what to prepare, we confirm it with you in the free consultation.
