Restaurant on Dianping in Malaysia: how to reach Chinese diners
A Malaysian restaurant reaches Chinese diners by listing on Dianping (大众点评): verification, a Chinese menu, deals and genuine customer reviews. MerchantNgin (赢商), Dianping's official partner in Malaysia, runs the Chinese-platform side for you. Typical go-live is 2-4 weeks after materials are complete.
How do Chinese diners find a restaurant before and after they reach Malaysia?
Chinese diners check Dianping before flying, search again in Kuala Lumpur, and read the Chinese menu at the door.
Dianping is the app Chinese consumers use to find restaurants, read reviews and buy set-meal deals, at home and when they travel. Meituan (美团) is its parent company, and verified merchants are also cross-listed on Meituan: one setup, two platforms.
The diners are coming. Chinese arrivals to Malaysia reached 4.66M in 2025, up 25.1% on 2024Tourism Malaysia, Malaysia Tourism KPI 2025, and visitor arrivals from China, day trips included, reached 1.41M in January to March 2026, up 25.3% on a year earlier and second only to SingaporeTourism Malaysia visitor arrival data, Jan-Mar 2026. It is not only tourists: for F&B in Malaysia, local Chinese diners often match or exceed tourist volume.

- Food and interior photos
- Real reviews and stars
- Deals and vouchers
Each of these is part of onboarding and operations: menu translation, photo gallery, deal listing and review replies.
Chinese diners searched for food abroad over 100 million times on Dianping in the past year.
From nearly 1.5 million travellers.
How do Chinese diners pay, and what does group buy do for a restaurant?
Chinese diners pay in the Dianping and Meituan apps, and deal redemptions are settled by the platform, so you do not handle RMB yourself.
Group buy means listing a set meal or voucher that diners buy before they arrive. Platform data shows merchants with group-buy deals get 30% more impressions on average.

Diners decide it. Dianping builds the Must-Eat List (必吃榜) from genuine diner reviews and says it has no commercial influence and takes no nominations, so a place cannot be bought, and no agency, including us, can promise you one.
The 2026 overseas awards were held in Kuala Lumpur on 26 August 2026. Malaysia has 45 listed restaurants in 5 cities, 13 of them in KL, with Melaka and Semporna newly included. Dianping data shows Malaysian restaurants newly on the 2026 list saw traffic rise 91.5% after it was publishedShenzhen News, 27 Aug 2026.
What we can do is get the basics right: an accurate Chinese menu, honest photos and careful replies to reviews, so the Chinese diners who visit are willing to write about it. The list itself is the diners' call.
Another list: the popular list (热门榜) shows on the store page and ranks stores automatically by category and area.

What restaurant owners ask most
Can my restaurant list on Dianping without Mandarin, a Chinese phone number or a China company?
Yes. You do not need Mandarin: you work with us in English or BM, and we handle the Chinese-platform side. You also do not need a Chinese phone number, a China company or a Chinese bank account; a Malaysian +60 number works. What you prepare are local documents: SSM registration and the owner's NRIC or passport, plus store details, photos and your menu; Dianping may ask for other verification documents.
Is Dianping only worth it for restaurants that serve tourists?
No. Dianping and Meituan are also widely used by the local Chinese-Malaysian community, and for F&B in Malaysia, local Chinese diners often match or exceed tourist volume. Your listing works for two groups at once: visiting Chinese travellers, and nearby Chinese-Malaysian diners who check reviews before they go out to eat.
How long does it take to list a restaurant on Dianping, and what is the minimum term?
Typically 2-4 weeks after we receive your complete materials: photos, menu, SSM registration and the owner's NRIC or passport. The minimum engagement for the Dianping service is 1 year, and signing starts a one-year service cycle; the verified merchant account (商户通) itself is an annual product, billed yearly. If you want to be live before a Chinese holiday peak, start on materials early.
My menu is only in English and Malay. Will Chinese diners understand it?
Menu translation is part of onboarding. We translate dish names and descriptions into natural Chinese, build your photo gallery and set your signature dishes, so a Chinese diner can see what you serve and what to order. You send the menu and photos you already have; we do the translation, layout and upload.
What happens when my restaurant gets a bad review in Chinese?
Review management is part of our service: we monitor new reviews, reply to good and bad ones, and remind real diners to share an honest review. You never write the replies yourself. Your monthly report covers impressions, visits, orders and reviews, so you can see how your reputation is moving.
How much does it cost to list a restaurant on Dianping?
Pricing is an annual package with a 1-year minimum, and the verified merchant account (商户通) is itself an annual product. We offer two packages, Merchant Verified Listing and Full Package, and the difference is group buy. Pricing depends on your restaurant, so we send a full proposal and quote after the free consultation rather than listing prices here.
